About Me


Hello, my name is James Burton, I am a REALTOR, owner, broker, & vintner of Century 21 Marathon.  I have been in the real estate business since 2007.  In July 2015 I opened Marathon Real Estate LLC.  I have been in the real estate business for over thirteen years. In that time, I have seen it all.  No matter your situation, I can find a way to find the property you want and make your deal work. I enjoy helping first time home buyers, and find it rewarding, helping them find their first home.  

I find that real estate affords me the freedom to spend more time with my kids.  I also enjoy off-roading in my Jeep, and making wine & beer. I am a disabled army veteran and have a VA loan.  I also have a teaching license for middle & high school social studies.  

An important tool of the trade is the Multiple Listing Service (MLS). MLS is the internet system all agents use to list and find properties for their clients. Web-sites like Trulia and Zillow, only give you a portion of the available information, it can be incorrect or outdated. MLS will give you everything I have access to, except the contact information for other agents. MLS will send you a daily email with new properties and price changes. This search is based on your preferences in location, type of property, and price range. All you have to do is select properties you want to see, and we go look at them. MLS will send you a daily email with new properties and price changes. Feel free to attend open houses, often new properties will have an open house the first weekend. 

Real Estate is an ever-evolving field.  To stay atop market & industry changes, I take Real Estate Education and Continuing education very seriously.  The following are official NAR (National Association of REALTORS) designations & certifications.   I go beyond maintaining licensure requirements, to increase my scope of real estate knowledge including aspects such as residential real estate, real estate team management, and broker management.  These classes and seminars, help teach me cutting edge technological aspects such as modern media, social media, video production, and drone & real estate photography.  The result of such education is the accumulation of officially recognized Nation Association of REALTORS, designations & certifications.  My goal is to have 20 Designations & Certifications by the end of 2021. 

Accredited Buyer's Representative / ABR®

The Accredited Buyer’s Representative (ABR®) designation is designed for real estate buyer agents who focus on working directly with buyer-clients at every stage of the home buying process.

Certified Real Estate Brokerage Manager / CRB

CRB Designees are better positioned to streamline operations, integrate new technology and apply new trends and business strategies.

Certified Residential Specialist / CRS

The CRS designation is the highest credential awarded to residential sales agents, managers, and brokers. On average, CRS designees earn nearly three times more in income, transactions, and gross sales than non-designee REALTORS®.

Certified Real Estate Team Specialist / C-RETS

The Certified Real Estate Team Specialist (C-RETS) certification is designed to improve team development, individual leadership skills, and financial performance. C-RETS courses provide the tools, strategies, and knowledge that are required of today’s real estate professionals who are either considering or currently operating in a team environment. It is for team leaders, team members, those looking to start a team, and those who simply want to sharpen their management skills.

e-Pro Certification / e-Pro®

NAR's e-PRO® certification program helps REALTORS® master the advanced digital marketing techniques of today. With the e-PRO® certification, REALTORS® increase their ability to reach customers, expand their capabilities, and build trust by safeguarding client information.

NAR's Green Designation / GREEN

Through NAR's Green Designation, the Green Resource Council provides ongoing education, resources and tools to help real estate practitioners find, understand, and market properties with green features.

Graduate REALTORS® Institute / GRI

REALTORS® with the GRI designation have in-depth training in legal and regulatory issues, technology, professional standards, and the sales process. Earning the designation is a way to stand out to prospective buyers and sellers as a professional with expertise in these areas.

Luxury Homes Certification / LHC

Luxury Homes Certification is for agents looking to hone their skills in the ever-growing luxury home market. The courses included will give REALTORS® the knowledge they need to approach the luxury niche, including pricing strategies, negotiation tactics, and how to stand out from the crowd.
